Kanèle, Caroline, tell us about yourselves
Kanèle: I have been working on events for a public institution since I finished my studies. I needed an entrepreneurial project for myself around sharing: entertaining, organizing large meals, small or slightly larger private or professional events. Welcoming guests and meeting new people are the two things that truly motivate me. La Maison Maroc brings together all my passions: from decorating to event organization to cooking!
Caroline: I am a speech therapist by training and passionate about art and design. My expatriate parents often lived in several countries, which fuelled my sensitivity to different cultures, crafts and architecture. I often like to sketch and imagine new projects. La Maison Maroc gave me a head start, and I am already enjoying the second phase of the project: the renovation of the adjoining stables.

How did you get involved in renting out vacation homes?
We had been discussing this vacation home project for several months, dreaming about having a country house where we could gather with our families and friends, away from home. One day, after a family weekend at Maison Sollier, we thought it could be done. We then pursued it seriously—and we did it!
Tell us how you found the property you are now renting as a vacation home?
We received regular alerts from various real estate sites. One Friday morning, we got the listing for La Maison Maroc. It met all our criteria except distance. We had set a 1.5-hour maximum from Paris, yet the next morning at 7 am we were already on the road. When we arrived, we didn’t hesitate a second—it was the one! On the way back we called the agent to make an offer. And you know the rest of the story.

What was your main objective when you decorated each room of the house?
Our main objective was to make the house comfortable for large groups, without stripping away its original character and preserving its history. That’s why we kept the old parquet, over-mantels, wall tapestries, cement tiles and retro mosaic—and used those elements as a starting point in our interior design.
How do you decide on the colors, patterns and decorative objects you want to place in your home?
We follow our hearts. We looked at color trends but also let ourselves be guided by our travels, walks, and Pinterest. Since the house is called La Maison Maroc, we loved mixing vintage pieces with oriental-styled objects.
How would you define the atmosphere of the house?
Like a stylish cocoon in nature: authentic, chic and vintage.

What is your secret to mixing & matching colors and prints in a vintage and unique interior decor setting?
Generally, we choose one main hue and pair it with up to two accent colors. Prints—whether geometric (our favorite), botanical or others—are selected to complement those tones. We also pay attention to the overall style: for example, in the rafia room, the orange, blue and gold tones work perfectly with a 1970s pattern, which inspired our furniture choices.

What are your tips for table decoration in a country style?
For us, a country table calls for fresh and dried flowers in small vases, a colorful, country-style tablecloth, and candles depending on the time of day. We prefer neutral, handmade tableware with character—often ceramics. With well-chosen table linens, any table becomes a memorable setting!

What is your favorite piece in the Jamini range?
Kanèle: For me it’s a pattern—the Jaipur Olive.
Caroline: I’m passionate about Indian quilts: by the fireplace, in the kids’ room for bedtime stories, in the garden for Sunday naps… And the printed quilts instantly dress any room!
