Kanèle, Caroline, tell us about yourselves

Kanèle : I have been working on events for a public institution since I finished my studies. I needed an entrepreneurial project for myself around sharing: entertaining, organizing large meals, small or slightly larger private or professional events. Welcoming guests and meeting new people are the 2 things that truly motivate me. La Maison Maroc brings together all my passions: from decorating to organization events to cooking!

Caroline: I am a speech therapist by training and I am passionate about art and design. My expatriate parents often lived in several countries. This fuelled my sensitivity to different cultures, crafts and architecture. I often like to sketch and imagine new projects. La Maison Maroc has given me a head start, and I am already enjoying the second phase of the project: the renovation of the adjoining stables.

How did you get involved in renting out vacation homes?

We had been discussing this vacation home project for several months, dreaming about having a house in the country where we could gather with our families and friends, getting away from home. One day, after a family weekend at Maison Sollier, we thought it could be done. We considered the idea seriously and we did it!

Tell us how you found the property you are now renting as a vacation home?

We received regular alerts from different real estate websites. One Friday morning, we received an advertisement for La Maison Maroc. It corresponded to all our criteria except for the distance. We had set ourselves a maximum travel time of 1.5 hours away from Paris. The next morning at 7am we were already on the road to discover our future project. When we arrived we didn't hesitate for a second, the house was THE one! On the way back we called the real estate agent to make an offer. And you know the rest of the story.

What was your main objective when you decorated each room of the house?

The main objective in decorating the house was to make it comfortable for the large groups, without distorting the original features and keeping the traces of its history. That's the reason why we decided to keep the old parquet floor, the overmantels, the wall tapestries, the cement tiles and the retro mosaic in order to use these elements as a starting point in our interior design.

How do you decide on the colors, patterns and decorative objects you want to place in your home?

We follow our hearts. We looked at color trends and let ourselves be inspired by travels, walks and by Pinterest. The house is called La Maison Maroc and we loved mixing vintage pieces with oriental styled objects.

How would you define the atmosphere of the house?

Like a comfortable and stylish cocoon in the middle of nature : authentic, chic and vintage.

What is your secret to mixing & matching colors and prints in a vintage and unique interior decor setting?

In general, we use a shade with which we can associate a maximum of two other colors. We choose prints that complement these shades. Prints may be geometric (our favorite), vegetal or others.  We pay attention to the resulting aesthetic : for example in the rafia room the orange, blue and golden shades work very well with a 70's pattern , which inspired our choice of furniture.

What are your tips for table decoration in a country style?

For us, a country table rhymes with fresh flowers and dried flowers in small vases, and a colorful and cheerful tablecloth. Depending on the time of day, we would use lots of candles. We like neutral tableware, preferably handmade, with interesting shapes and stories. We love the work of ceramic artists. If all the elements and table linens are well chosen, table decoration is a fun and satisfying project!

What is your favorite piece in the Jamini range?

Kanèle; for me it would be a pattern: the Jaipur Olive

Caroline; I have a passion for Indian quilts: by the fireplace, in the children's room for cuddling during bedtime stories, in the garden for a Sunday nap... I love the Jamini printed quilts: they effortlessly add a  dressed up look to a room.
