A Journey Between India and Europe
Originating in India, chintz is a printed cotton fabric, sometimes glazed to give it a subtle shine. As early as the 17th century, Indian artisans mastered the art of block printing, meticulously carving complex floral motifs inspired by the lush nature surrounding them. These exquisite fabrics were exported to Europe, where they quickly became a sensation. In France and England, they graced salons, bedrooms, and even the attire of the elite.

As demand soared, European manufacturers sought to imitate these coveted textiles. William Morris, a prominent figure of the Arts & Crafts movement, drew inspiration from chintz to create his own textile designs. His creations, blending artistry and craftsmanship, restored the prestige of printed textiles and continue to influence interior design today.
