Our square cotton napkin naturally dyed is designed in Paris and hand block printed in India by expert artisans. Block printing is an ancestral technique from Rajasthan in the West of India. It consists of hand printing fabric using carved wooden blocks.

This piece uses the Bagru technique of printing dark patterns using natural dyes on a beige background. Before dyeing, the fabric is soaked in a natural mordant made from the myrobalan fruit and which binds color to the fabric and gives it a distinct yellowish color. Natural shades of red are created by mixing varying proportions of alum, madder and acacia arabica. Alum is used for greys and fermented waste iron, jaggery, and water for blacks.

This printed napkin will delight you with its unique aesthetics and irregularities of the fabric that make it even more special. This natural color will fade & evolve over time. Please protect this fabric from long exposures to bright sunlight. Natural dyeing fabric also has a tendency to bleed - this is a natural characteristic of this environment friendly technique. Please use adequate care while washing.
