Celebrating the craftsmanship of the Kashmir valley: Jamini’s new tableware collection

Open the doors of your home to a moment of exoticism and color: imagine tumblers, mugs, trays, and many other handcrafted pieces capturing the light to evoke the power of a tiger or the serenity of an elephant in their designs.

Jamini’s new tableware collection was born in the heart of the Kashmir Valley. Created by master artisans whose know-how is passed down through generations, these stainless-steel pieces stand out for their authenticity and feature hand-painted motifs inspired by local wildlife and flora, sealed under a varnish that preserves the vibrancy of the colors.

Stainless Steel: A Material Built to Last

Chosen for its strength and ease of care, stainless steel is lightweight and shock-resistant: it fears neither rust nor the wear of time. This material guarantees durable tableware without compromising aesthetics; its subtle shine highlights the bold colors of the motifs while remaining remarkably easy to clean.

A Kashmiri Heritage at the Heart of Our Craft

In Srinagar, on the shores of Dal Lake, families of artisans keep an ancestral craft alive: working metal to create soulful everyday objects. In their workshop, the stainless steel is first cut and hand-hammered, each movement the result of years of apprenticeship under their elders. But their art doesn’t stop at form: they also celebrate Kashmiri pictorial tradition by painting animal and floral motifs themselves. Tigers, elephants, monkeys, and tulips come to life on every tumbler, mug, jug, or tray. Natural pigments are applied with precision, then sealed under a food-safe varnish that ensures color longevity without diminishing your dining pleasure.

Inspiration springs from the lush landscapes and majestic wildlife of Kashmir. The tiger, a symbol of quiet power, adorns some tumblers, while the elephant embodies gentleness and wisdom. Monkeys recall the animated energy of Srinagar’s streets, and stylized tulips evoke the royal gardens of yesteryear.

Harmonizing Stainless Steel Tableware with Table Linens

To showcase these stainless-steel creations, your table linens should complement and enrich the hand-painted motifs.

Pieces adorned with elephants pair beautifully with the Reema tablecloth: crafted from cotton, it features an iconic floral pattern in shades of pink, from the most delicate to the deepest. These rosy tones blend harmoniously with the warm hues of the elephant and subtly extend the abundance symbolized by Kashmiri wildlife.

To highlight a majestic tiger, the Loni tablecloth adds a vibrant, warm touch. Its shades of yellow immediately recall the animal’s fur, while the dark green accents evoke the lush foliage surrounding the creature. The intentionally imperfect artisan printing creates a lively effect on cotton and offers a striking contrast to the sheen of the painted steel.

The Chintz motif, heir to traditional Kashmiri fabrics, pairs perfectly with the Dinty tablecloth. This cotton piece glows with its floral print of soft pink and leaf green, complementing the chintz painted on the steel without competing. Both designs share a lush spirit, yet remain light enough to let the metal’s decoration shine through.

The Daisy motif features delicate roses accented with leaves in shades of green and yellow. It finds its perfect setting on the Dalia tablecloth. This poetic pattern of stylized dahlias and foliage touched with yellow dialogues elegantly with the roses on the tableware. Slight variations from hand printing evoke nature’s spontaneity and highlight the artisanal craftsmanship.
