About ceramics

The technique of making ceramics goes back to the Neolithic period, well before the work of metal and glass. The term "ceramic" is of Greek origin: "keramon" means "clay". This word designates the material used to make certain clay objects, but also the art of shaping them. Depending on the nature of their components and their higher or lower firing temperature, ceramic objects have different properties.

Terracotta

Used in pottery or sculpture, terracotta is the result of low temperature firing of clay. Ideal for vases or decorative objects, it brings a warm and cozy touch to a room with its natural ochre color.

Stoneware

Also called glazed fired clay, stoneware is obtained by a second firing at very high temperatures. With its raw and rustic look, it is ideal to bring a natural and minimalist decorating atmosphere.

Porcelain

This material steeped in history remains one of the most refined ceramics with its fine and translucent design that gives it a delicate and very chic appearance.

Earthenware

Made from glazed or enamelled clay, earthenware is a ceramic with a white background. Most of the time, it is used to make plates, bowls or salad bowls, but also to make credenza tiles.

Zellige, a glazed terracotta tile from Morocco, has a delicate iridescent look and unstructured finishes. Ideal as a decorative touch in a Wabi-Sabi interior, zellige also fits easily into contemporary interiors or country homes. Choose natural colors like beige, black or white for a handcrafted ambiance. For a bohemian atmosphere, let yourself be seduced by warmer shades like terracotta, olive or mustard yellow. Combine them with blond wood or raw furniture for a stunning and authentic decor.

Ceramic tableware

Robust and very varied, ceramic tableware allows you to decorate your table according to your personality and highlight your favorite table linen.

For contemporary decoration, opt for ceramic tableware in color blocks. This style often combines a light color like white with a bright color to bring freshness to your tableware. It is ideal for a Scandinavian or art deco decoration.

Minimalist and chic stoneware table accessories add a natural and earthy look to any table decoration. Combined with floral and colorful table linens - tableclothsnapkins or placemats - it adds a bohemian chic atmosphere to meals.

If you are a fan of Mediterranean tableware, you will love our range of ceramics handmade in the pure Greek tradition by the Roussos family.

The Roussos family has been creating handmade ceramics on the Greek island of Kythira for more than one century. To this day, the 5th generation of potters continues the art of the family with love and passion. Panagiotis, the potter, shapes the vessels on the traditional Greek wheel, the way that his father and grandfather taught him. His sister, Maria, who gets inspired by colors of Greece, the Kythirian earth and tradition, hand-paints them. Grigoria, the mother, applies the liquid glass glaze using the secret recipe of the Roussos family.

Whatever the mood of your table decoration, bouquets of fresh flowers in a pretty ceramic vase will give a cheerful and colorful note.
