Lucie Rouland: when decoration becomes an expression of self
Lucie Rouland: when decoration becomes an expression of self
Decorating is about telling an intimate story through chosen textures, colors, and objects. With the eye of an architect turned interior designer, Lucie Rouland imagines sensitive, warm, and singular spaces. Driven by the desire to create interiors that resonate with those who inhabit them, she combines natural materials, clean lines, and touches of light in a perfectly balanced harmony. Between raw materials and subtle details, Lucie draws on craftsmanship and vibrant pigments to compose atmospheres that are both authentic and bold.
Can you tell us about your journey and what led you to become an interior designer?
Creativity has always been part of my life, ever since I was a child. From architect, I became an interior designer out of a passion for decoration.

You say that the home is a “projection of self.” How does this idea influence your work?
Each client takes me into their own universe. Together, we create a unique project, tailored to the client’s needs and desires, yet conveying the agency’s DNA.
How would you define your decorating style in a few words?
My style oscillates between raw materials and luminous finishes, always guided by the idea of creating a space that is both authentic and bold. I love finding the balance between a pared-down structure and a strong personality, revealed through a pattern, a texture, or an unexpected detail.
Which materials, colors, or patterns inspire you most in your projects?
Terracotta is part of the agency’s DNA: I love its raw feel, its color variations, and its imperfections, which I pair with smooth and shiny materials like polished concrete and zellige tiles. This contrast creates an aesthetic tension that brings spaces to life and makes them rich in sensations.
How do Jamini’s prints and colors align with your decorating philosophy?
Showcasing artisanal skills like block printing or embroidery is at the heart of my projects. Jamini’s colorful prints add that touch of poetry and warmth that enlivens every space. They allow you to dare without overwhelming, punctuating an interior with stories from elsewhere.

What is your favorite Jamini piece and why?
My favorite piece is the Loni tablecloth: it’s the ultimate “wow” effect. It instantly brightens up a living room or terrace with its vibrant colors. It catches the eye without overpowering the space and immediately brings a joyful, convivial atmosphere.

What advice would you give to add an artisanal and colorful touch to your home while staying true to yourself?
I recommend painting one targeted wall in a bold shade, while keeping a predominance of white in the room. Then, add a few selected pieces — embroidered cushions, a floral tablecloth — to create a unique and personalized ambiance. It’s about composing sparingly, listening to your desires, and letting the objects speak.
