Indian artisans have practiced traditional handloom weaving for generations. Women in villages often own a loom in their homes, which allows them to weave fabrics and scarves for friends and families, thereby giving ensuring them additional revenue. Before making her fabrics, a weaver sketches a design that requires precise information about the number of threads to be used for each part of the motif, as well as the color scheme of the pattern.

The creative process is a challenge, a learning experience to solve a quality or design problem, and it develops and improves the skills of women who use ancestral know-how.

When Jamini works with artisans, we share our design sense with weavers who use their savoir faire to create unique pieces. It is a two way process of learning and sharing and enables both parties to contribute to the preservation of traditional art and craft.
